What is flat plate heat exchanger

Flat Plate Heat Exchanger

A flat plate heat exchanger is a usual heat and cooling down home gym used to transport high temperature between two cultures medium. Innovated in the 1920s to replace shell and tube exchangers, flat plate heat exchangers can be used for radiant heating for domestic water systems, wood burning furnaces, refrigerating arrangements, swimming bath heating plant, beer cooling schemes, and solar water heating.

A flat plate heat exchanger does n’t have pipings, but a serial of stainless platefuls. These metallic element plates have a turgid expanse and can withstand high heat temperatures without damage. Hot and cold essential fluids are moved through the series of plates, coursing during jumping channels, transfering heat at a high rate. A stiffer number of plates in the heat exchanger intends more heat beingat transferred to the space.

Flat plate heat exchangers have advantages in contrast to subdued heat options. The flat plate heat exchanger is a better conductor of high heat, resulting in eminent degrees of hotness conduction rates and heightened rates of heat transfer. They also offer better temperature control because they have the ability to work at a lesser temperature difference as low as one degree.

The 2nd upside of the flat plate heat exchanger is its stocky type of. Likened with former heating plant, the flat plate heat exchanger takes up less space to transmit the same a better standard of heat as a traditional unit. The flat crustal plate unit also uses less free energy and costs less. Alimony on a flat plate heat exchanger is simpler than alternative heating and cooling methods. This unit can be cleaned by flushing it with warm water and has a self-cleaning characteristic to attenuate buildup. The flat plates are also more resistive to corrosion when soft water is needed due to the shortage of chlorides in soft water and the more than neutral pH level.

What is a liquid to liquid heat exchanger

What is a liquid to liquid heat exchanger

Liquid to liquid heat exchangers are used in hundreds of facilities and machinery. They are so common that we simply don’t realize the importance of these units. Combustion engines and space heaters uses the heat exchangers to perform the function they are set out to do. Chemical plants and gas processing is only a few of one many uses for heat exchangers.

Basically, the liquid to liquid heat exchanger is a piece of equipment made from copper, cast-iron or steel. Any of these materials is good heat conductors. The main purpose for them is to transfer heat from one system to another. Two units are needed. The mediums can be separated or in close contact with each other. The result is the same. The circulating fluid will flow through small or large tubes. The circular pipes or tube bundles will transfer air flow through the coils and heat up the air that goes into the exchanger. When air is released from the exchanger it, then will heat up an area or perform the duty it was designed for.

Some liquid heat exchanges are made with plates. These flat thin sheets have a surface passage area for the fluid to circulate through and then the heat is transfered.

Two kinds of exchangers are the parallel-flow, which has two liquids that enter at the same time and travel parallel to each other. The second type is called a counter-flow. The fluid on a counter flow enters the unit from opposite ends of each other.

What is a heat exchanger

A heat exchanger is a complex and highly useful device used for transferring the heat from one fluid at a higher temperature to another fluid at a lower temperature continuously without allowing one fluid to come into the direct contact with another fluid. Actually these two fluids have a thin wall having a very high thermal conductivity separating them.

The mechanism of a heat exchanger is quite simple wherein heat exchange occurs when one of the fluids is pumped into its tubes and another one into its shell. A thin metal wall separates two liquids that are fed into the heat exchanger at varied temperatures. Now this wall has a very high thermal conductivity and acts as heat conductor due to which the hotter solution transfers its heat to a much cooler solution that is flowing in the outer pipe.

The heat transfer is quite fast if the exchanger has a much larger surface area because thermal energy tries to flow from the hotter areas to the colder areas in order to reach equilibrium. Sometimes heat exchangers are also known by other names depending upon the purpose for which they are being used.

Metals such as cast iron, steel, copper, aluminum and bronze are used for constructing exchangers. However, the biggest challenge faced by manufacturers with heat exchangers is the corrosion that occurs due to the constant flow of liquids in them. Therefore, they are constantly in search for ways to somehow prevent this from occurring. They use special tubes that are resistant to the corrosion. Aside from this, many innovations in the
basic designs of exchangers are being done and now we have fin type exchangers that are resistant to corrosion.

In order to keep the exchanger in excellent working condition, it is necessary that its tubes are cleaned on the regular basis. The design or shell and tube type exchangers is quite complex and cleaning it is a daunting task but professionals have devised efficient way to achieve it in an easy way. Mostly, water jetting is used for cleaning the exchanger tubes wherein high pressure water jet is used for cleaning up the scales on the tubes. The water jetting can be done remotely using an automated system for ensuring the safety of the operators. Heat exchangers are used in various industries such as steel, pharmaceutical, oil and so on. Industries save huge amounts of money due to their operation.
